The aim of this course is to provide in-depth understanding and equip with analytical instruments for analysing the fundamentals of the EU Enlargement policy and its dynamics. Participants will be able to explore the relevant institutional framework and procedures ruling the membership accession process, from both sides, EU and accession countries. In this regard, a particular attention will be paid to the European integration process of the Western Balkans, focusing on institutional reforms, compliance with EU standards, and political challenges and obstacles encountered.
In addition to the theoretical contribution, participants will be able to get information and discuss practical cases with guest lectures and practitioners who have been involved in previous accessions or in ongoing negotiations (such as former chief negotiators, regional experts, etc.).
